Ansell & Bailey developed initial Trust proposals for the refurbishment of an existing community hospital at Mansfield as part of the Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Trust PFI scheme.

All acute beds were relocated at Kings Mill general hospital and Mansfield refurbished and extended as an outreach centre for rehabilitation and GP services.

Non acute beds for the elderly and for rehabilitation after surgery or stroke cases are the only inpatient facilities.

A new entrance building contained a Resource Centre primarily for extending public awareness of outreach services: home help, outpatient occupational and physiotherapy and for the elderly and stroke victims, a new independent living suite to assess patients ability to return home.

Extensive end user group meetings resolved the many different requirements and concerns of the existing nursing staff, the new GP and dental practice; and helped keep a small X-ray unit within the hospital and in danger of closure.
